Wirral Seeks Young Peer Mentors to Support At-Risk Youth

Targeted Youth Support are recruiting five Peer Mentors aged 18-24 to connect young people with prevention services and early intervention initiatives. The initiative targets areas affected by gang activity, serious violence, and exploitation, with mentors drawing on their own lived experiences to make a difference.

Supervised and coached by professionals from Targeted Youth Services, mentors will engage in tailored support, including group work or one-on-one mentoring, depending on the needs of the young people they serve. The program aims to provide mentors with valuable experience, boosting their prospects for permanent roles in the youth sector.

What’s Involved?

  • Training: Mentors will complete an 8-week Peer Mentor Induction Course, followed by ongoing group meetings for support and experience-sharing.

  • Role: Upon completing the course and DBS checks, mentors will support group activities and one-on-one mentoring to enhance youth engagement in services.

  • Commitment: Mentors will work 11 hours per week, earning approximately £10 per hour.

Interested candidates can contact Jamie Greer at jamiegreer@wirral.gov.uk. This is a unique opportunity for young people to make a meaningful impact while building a foundation for a career in youth services.
